While winter may be right around the corner, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy gorgeous fall weather in the Chicago area – days of mild temps, sunshine and autumn colors.
And, by all accounts, being outdoors is much safer than being inside with others for avoiding possible COVID-19 infection. So, now is the perfect time to take advantage of the nice weather for as long as we can by seeking outside activities.
The only thing better than a fun, outdoor adventure is a fun, outdoor adventure with your dog by your side. Fortunately, you have plenty of options!
1. Seadog Boat Tours
One of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of Chicago is from a boat. If you think your furry friend would enjoy the ride too, check out a dog-friendly lakefront speedboat tour or an architecture tour on the river or lake. Use code “Puppy” to get 15% off your ticket price when bringing your dog. And dogs ride free!
2. Dog Parks
A beautiful day at a dog park can be just what the doctor ordered for you and your pup. There are many to choose from in the city and suburbs. One of the biggest in our area is the Canine Campus Dog Park in Tinley Park. This 10-acre park has designated areas for small and large dogs, as well as shelters, benches, water fountains, an agility course, waste disposal bags/receptacles, and plenty of open space to run around.
3. Dog-Friendly Restaurant Patios
We love supporting local, small restaurants all the time, but it’s especially important these days. Many establishments have adapted well by expanding outdoor, distanced dining options to allow guests to enjoy a dine-in experience while staying safe. And some even allow dogs to tag along! Check out this list of dog-friendly restaurants around Mokena and in the city. It would be wise to call restaurants first to confirm given that many may have different policies.
4. Dog Day at Morton Arboretum
Sunday, November 7 is dog day at the gorgeous Morton Arboretum! They must stay on leashes the whole time and aren’t permitted in certain areas, but there’s still lots of fun to be had in this 1700-acre natural paradise. Bringing your best friend on four legs adds just an additional $5 to the regular entry fee.
5. Fall Fun at Abbey Farms
The only thing that could make a day in a pumpkin patch better would be your pup! And thanks to Abbey Farms in Aurora, you can have it all. In addition to picking out the perfect jack-o-lantern, there are a variety of festive activities and treats the whole family can enjoy.
6. Camp Dogwood
Imagine a kid’s sleep away camp but for dogs and their humans! That’s Camp Dogwood. This Lake Delton, Wisconsin camp is a bit further away, but sounds like it’s worth the drive. It offers a unique opportunity to bond with your furry friend in a welcoming environment designed just for this purpose. Your weekend at “camp” will be full of fun activities for you and your dog, educational talks and training sessions.
Seize the fall with these fun activities that will let you and your dog soak up the sun and warm weather before winter comes. Just be sure to do your research before visiting any of the places mentioned to learn about current health and safety measures. And, of course, maintain physical distancing and wear a mask when that’s not possible.
